Given the object to design an efficient and inspiring space for a luxury student residence project, the concept behind our design embraces the constant and complex development process and the experience of growth for the end-user. The name Ground Zero for our project was selected from our concept and inspiration of roots – translating itself in the form , development and ideas in our design. We believe that growth is a fundamental and continuous learning process. Thus, We chose roots to represent this process, embracing a strong foundation from the ground up, hence our name Ground Zero. Additionally, the custom built in furniture in our suit emphasizes the importance of priority and functionality. What is most important and most functional should be grounded in the design mimicking the permanence and significance of roots that holds everything up. Roots nature and having take on organic forms, we translated this into our design and is incorporated into the walls and ceilings through cove lighting creating soft silhouettes mimicking this while establishing a whimsical yet cozy living environment easily adjusting to the student’s lifestyle and learning process respectively.
